The planned expansion of a nearby airport would mean relocation for AxiomID (a product design firm located in Huntsville, North Carolina) - and the opportunity to create a building as innovative as the company it housed. Owner Richard Turner wanted a design that would facilitate efficient work flow, creativity and teamwork. He envisioned a unique experience - to work in a facility specifically designed to their needs with a very open and team-oriented work environment.

Mr. Turner originally planned a structural steel building but found steel companies less accommodating and prices higher than timber framing. Instead, Blue Ridge Timberwrights and Architect Brian LaPointe worked closely to design an eight-faceted timber structure.

The timber frame was positioned to overlook seven wooded acres wrapping around a 30-foot deep gorge filled with 60 to 80 foot trees. This allowed the timber frame to be placed in a unique relationship with its environment. The first floor is subterranean in the front; the main entrance is on the mezzanine level of the building.
